Injured on the Job? How We Can Help
If you’re injured on the job, Mercy Medical Urgent Care can document that injury so you can file a workers’ compensation claim with the state of Florida. Here’s how it works.

If you’re in the state of Florida and get hurt on the job, you’re entitled to workers’ compensation for your medical bills and lost wages.

If you’re reading this from another state, keep in mind that each state has its own requirements about who’s entitled to compensation and who isn’t, so it’s best to check with your employer about their insurance coverage, so you’ll know what to do in case of an accident.

At Mercy Medical Urgent Care, Dr. Bilal Khoder and our staff offer same-day appointments for assessing and treating work-related injuries

We document our findings so that the Department of Operations can determine the severity of your injury and the level of compensation to which you’re entitled. Here’s how we can help.

What is workers’ compensation?

Workers’ compensation is an insurance policy employers need to have in case one of their workers gets injured or becomes ill on the job.

If you’re injured and it’s not life-threatening, tell your supervisor about the incident, then seek medical help. It’s important to document all aspects of the injury or illness.

Depending on the nature and severity of the injury, you may be entitled to benefits that cover medical expenses, lost wages, funeral costs, and legal fees.

In Florida, medical expenses include care for repetitive stress injuries (e.g., data entry, assembly-line work) and ongoing treatments, such as physical therapy.

If you need to take time off from work to recover from the injury or illness, Florida’s Division of Workers’ Compensation will pay you for lost wages. If you’re unable to return to work, it can cover a permanent disability claim.

What does the medical exam cover?

When you come into Mercy Medical Urgent Care for a work-related illness or injury, we first take a detailed medical history, including any diseases or conditions you may have or that run in your family, any medications and supplements you take, and information about your lifestyle habits (e.g., diet, exercise).

Next, we ask about the injury itself, including how it happened, where you were, and your symptoms.

Then, we perform a physical exam, focusing on the part of you that was injured and documenting its nature and severity, as well as the length of time we estimate it will take to heal and if you’ll need time off from work.

If we need to obtain more information to make a diagnosis, we may order diagnostic tests, such as a CT scan or an MRI.

Once you have the medical documentation, you can file a claim with your employer’s insurance company. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what you need to do, including any additional forms you need to fill out.

Accidents happen, and if you were injured on the job, Mercy Medical Urgent Care can help with documenting that injury. We’re open seven days a week. Walk in, or give us a call at 386-758-2944 to schedule.
